"It's A Wonderful Plinkett" is the third episode of the second season of the 789 Films animated web series, Mr. Plinkett: The Animated Series, and 9th episode of the series overall. It first aired on February 11, 2013 on Blip. The episode was animated and edited by Shaun McKinnon, combining preexisting voice-work by Mike Stoklasa and RedLetterMedia productions with other sources to create a unified story.
After declining a Costco membership, Mr. Plinkett becomes the target of a murder plot. The story is narrated from two perspectives, first by Mr. Plinkett and then by a Costco clerk.
While getting a Costco membership, Mr. Plinkett commiserates with the clerk over their unrealized dreams. The conversation sours when Plinkett balks at the price for a membership and declines to purchase it. The clerk rages and despairs, knowing that this lost sale means his financial ruin. He invites Plinkett to his house for dinner, secretly intending to murder the old man. The clerk then methodically sets fire to his house and leaves to establish an alibi.
In the aftermath of the fire, the clerk is shocked to find that Plinkett survived the attempt on his life. The clerk tries to escape using a Costco jetpack, but it runs out of fuel. All the prior events are then revealed to be part of a movie being reviewed on Best of the Worst.
In a post-credits scene, the clerk crashes into the Happy Dale Orphanage, which has recovered from Mr. Plinkett's crash in "Mr. Plinkett Gets Shot Out Back for Ruining Christmas."
- Mike Stoklasa as Harry S. Plinkett and Canadian Hooker
- Jimmy Stewart as Jimmy Stewart the Clerk
- Unknown as Star Trek Guy
This episode is listed as "Wonderful Plinkett" on the RedLetterMedia site, but is titled "It's A Wonderful Plinkett" in the opening credits. Due to the presence of Jimmy Stewart as a character and the use of audio from the It's a Wonderful Life radio play, the 789 Films title is more suitable. Many visual references to RedLetterMedia productions are scattered throughout the short.
Sources for the audio used in the episode were captured from various RedLetterMedia productions, the It's a Wonderful Life (1947) radio play, and "Consequence" (1949) from the Suspense radio drama. The radio plays both feature Jimmy Stewart in lead roles.
The episode first aired February 11, 2013 on Blip, and was later added to YouTube on March 16, 2013.
The name of the animation studio is seen on the door of the Canadian strip club, on the Costco cash register display, and on the archway of the entrance to Happy Dale Orphanage.
